BIO
Dr. Stefanie Havelka is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin in Ireland. Previously, she was the Web and Mobile Services Librarian, Assistant Professor at Lehman College, The City University of New York, and the Information Technology Manager at the Goethe-Institut New York.
Her research focuses on human-computer interaction, specifically addressing privacy and security within ubiquitous computing environments. She also explores digital literacies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI literacy. She is committed to advancing equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in Library and Information Science (LIS) theory and practice. Her work engages with critical librarianship, examines the impact of AI on higher education and the LIS field, and investigates the role of metadata in knowledge organization.
She has published articles on mobile privacy, apps, behavior, information literacy, and Universal Design for Learning.
One of her recent publications investigated and compared mobile privacy behavior and attitudes of library and information science students from Germany and the USA. The study discovered and discerned different mobile privacy typologies. These typologies, ranging from “mobile privacy objection” to “mobile privacy learned helplessness,” reveal how they similarly impact German and American students’ privacy behavior and attitude.
