I have worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 1996 and I now lead the Gulliver Clinic providing assessment and treatment for stress related illness. I work with individuals and organisations and provide training and consultation on stress management and prevention. I am an Associate Dean with the St. Patrick's Mental Health Service. My main interests both clinical and research are the interface between physical and mental health, prevention and early intervention. I recently published 'The Stress Handbook: managing stress for healthy living', Orpen Press, 2018 and co-edited 'Understanding Mental Health', Blackhall Press, 2005 and co-authored 'Stress the Common Sense Approach' in 1998. Between 1996 and 2013 I was the Clinic Lead for the Dublin County Stress Clinic and Postgraduate Tutor on the St. John of God /St Vincent's University Hospital and UCD Training scheme. During that time I was Chair of the Audit Committee and the Clinic Governance and Quality Team. I led the development of the Individual Integrated Care Plan and supervised the introduction into clinical practice. I was one of the founding team that worked on the development and implementation of patient electronic records. I chaired the Research Board for the St. John of God Services and organised the annual Research Study Days and the annual Public Lecture Series 'Minding the Mind'. I have collaborated with Johns Hopkins and held the post of Visiting Professor, the karolinska Institute, The Institute of Psychiatry, London, The University of Lund and the RCSI.
