I initially qualified as a nurse and midwife, and developed my interest in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) while working in general nursing in Ireland and abroad. In 1995 I came to the UCD Centre for Safety and Health at Work (CSHW), with responsibility for academic management and development of the Centre's OSH Education Programmes. I was appointed as a College Lecturer in 2001 and am currently Professor in Occupational Safety and Health. I'm a member of the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science and served on the School Executive (2005 to 2013) and Management teams (2005 to date) and also as School Head of Teaching and Learning (2005 to 2011) and Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning (2011 to 2013). I'm a member of UCD's Academic Council I've served on various associated committees over the years, and I'm currently Chair of Academic Council Committee on Student Conduct and Capacity. I contributes to and work with a variety of Irish and International committees and bodies in work related to OSH. I hold a number of roles: I'm Director of the UCD CSHW (2002 to date) and UCD Head of Subject in Occupational Safety and Health (2009 to date). I designed and co-ordinate the UCD blended online Certificate in Safety and Health at Work programme, and I teach and coordinate a number of modules on the Higher Diploma and MSc programmes.
