DrAnton van Beek

Anton van Beek is an Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at University College Dublin. He received his B.S. (2013) in Mechanical Engineering from the HZ University of applied sciences (The Netherlands) afterward he worked for one year as a naval architect at IHC Merwede. Subsequently, he returned to graduate school and received his M.S. (2017) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (China). In this capacity he worked as a research assistant in the Intelligent Design and Optimization laboratory where he worked on developing model validation methods with incomplete data. Subsequently, he received his Ph.D. (2021) in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University (United States). During his Ph.D. he was a member of the Intelligent Design and Automation Laboratory where he worked on developing statistical methods for data synthesis and acquisition for the discovery of new material systems.

Some highlight of my career include:

• Two IDETC DAC best paper awards (2019 & 2024),
• Hosting the 2025 International Systems Realization Partnership Symnposium at UCD.
• Succes of my mentees, including graduation with "The Highest Distinction" honors from Duke, nomination for the James Lacy Award, and securing jobs in top venues (e.g., Tsinghua, NVIDIA, and Johnson & Johnson).
• Getting our work titled "A Data-Driven Decision Support Framework for Quantifying and Managing Uncertainty" selected to be highlighted on the Youtube channel of the Journal of Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation.
