DrAntoni Porayski-Pomsta

I am a historian of Poland and Russian empire contributing to Professor Jennifer Keating's Land Limits project. I received my BA from the University of Oxford, and MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. My doctoral dissertation,  A history of Russian Poland's urban outskirts, c. 1880-1914, explored how peri-urban spaces were 'produced' through the interactions between the imperial state, the domestic elite(s), and the local inhabitants, primarily migrants from small towns and the countryside.

My new project explores the woodlands of Russian Poland and how their history helps untangle rural social relations in the aftermath of Jewish and peasant emancipations of the 1860s.

I have published in Kritika: Explorations in Russian and Eurasian History and Journal of Social History.
