Assoc ProfessorAogan Mulcahy

My teaching philosophy is based on the simple belief that we should take learning seriously. The traditional approach to teaching privileges the material above the learning. My approach tries to de-centre my role as lecturer, and place the students and their learning right at the heart of any teaching practice. Innovation and Leadership My contribution to innovation and leadership in teaching and learning includes: (a) my revitalisation of SOC 10020 and my active support for a Fellowship project that increased our student retention rates; (b) my role in helping restructure the BSocSc programme into specified pathways that enhanced students' ability to build up their expertise in particular areas aligned to graduate programmes and professional opportunities; and (c) my role in helping to enhance PhD students' professional development.
