TEACHING ACTIVITIES

My philosophy of teaching is based on the importance of creating a state of cognitive imbalance for students, supporting them to question the information presented and to examine how it may be applicable to their clinical practice or to their research. My core area of teaching has been within the discipline of psychology particularly in areas related to health psychology, maternal and infant health and evidence based practice and research. Over the years I have co-ordinated and taught on modules specific to psychology. I also support students' education in the areas of psychological theory and research evidence relating to maternal grief and bereavement care, chronic illness and self-management, physical and mental well-being. My contribution to education and learning is reflective of, my considerable clinical and research experience to date. I teach across all four stages of the undergraduate programme and on all four registered programmes. A key learning outcome for students is to establish with them that Nursing and Midwifery practice is evidence based and is situated within the social behavioural sciences alongside the biological sciences, this approach is fundamental to my engagement with all students as a educator and supervisor.
