BIO
Bartosz Bieszczad completed his PhD in University College Dublin under the supervision of Prof. Declan G. Gilheany on the asymmetric Grignard synthesis of tertiary alcohols. He then joined Prof. Paolo Melchiorre's group in ICIQ (Spain) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where he focused on the development of new asymmetric, organocatalytic photochemical reactions. After that he moved to Prof. Burkhard Koening's group in Regensburg (Germany), where he developed new class of photocatalysts capable of utilizing two photons of visible light for challenging oxidations. Finally, he joined Prof. Samir Z. Zard group in Ecole Polytechnique (France) as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow, where he focused on the use of radicals in organic synthesis, specifically in preparation of polycylic terpenes. Bartosz returned to Ireland to take the post of the Assistant Lecturer in Technological University Dublin and he joined UCD as an independent researcher (SFI-IRC Pathway Fellowship) in 2023. His research interests lie in the development of new synthetic methodologies utilizing light as the energy source.
