BIO

Benjamin Anderson is Ad Astra Fellow and Assistant Professor of Creative and Cultural Industries in the School of Art History & Cultural Policy at University College Dublin (UCD). His primary research concerns the workplace cultures, working conditions, and pathways to worker organizing in creative and digital industries, particularly in the (neo-)craft sector. Drawing upon critical political economy, sociology of work, and critical theory, his scholarship attempts to shed light on conditions of exploitation and inequality within the creative and cultural sector while also supporting workers in creating knowledge about their industries and interests and assisting in their efforts to collectively organise. He is also interested in the histories of and current conditions for worker organising in the global logistics sector. His work can be found in Labour/Le Travail, TOPIA: Canadian Journal of Cultural Studies, the Global Labour Journal and elsewhere. He has co-edited special issues of New Proposals: Journal of Marxism & Interdisciplinary Inquiry and TOPIA: Canadian Journal of Cultural Studies and is currently co-editing a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Communication on the legacy of Dallas Smythe.

He currently serves as director of the UCD Winifred Carney Centre for Organising & Labour Research (COLR), an interdisciplinary community of researchers and activists focused on worker and community organising. He is also a member of the UCD Centre for Canadian Studies and the UCD Humanities Institute and an assoicate of the Global Labour Research Centre. He serves on the editorial boards of the Global Labour Journal and Historical Materialism: Workers and Capital.
