BIO

In 2017, I was awarded a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct a comprehensive study in comparative literature under the mentorship of Prof. Anne Fuchs (UCD Humanities Institute). The two-year project is entitled "Contested Identities. A Comparative Study of the Migrant Experience in Contemporary German, Dutch and Irish Literature" and addresses - among other things - the urgent need to critically (re)examine the terms of the migration debate, including collective and national identity, belonging, displacement and transnationalism. In 2018, as part of the government's newly developed Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026, the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and Léargas have additionally charged me with conducting a comprehensive study on the learning experience and impact of foreign languages on participants in all sectors of Erasmus+ in Ireland, i.e. Adult Education, Higher Education, School Education, Vocational Education and Training, and Youth. The study is also meant to assess awareness and attitudes toward foreign languages among those involved in these sectors in Ireland. My GOI Postdoctoral Fellowship at the UCD Humanities Institute is being extended accordingly.
