BIO

I am an applied mathematician who uses and develops numerical methods for the simulation of turbulence in environmental and geophysical flows. In particular, I am interested in processes involving the interaction of buoyancy, turbulence and thermodynamic phase changes, and how these typically small-scale processes have an impact on larger systems such as the atmosphere, ocean and cryosphere.

Application topics

  • Ocean mixing
  • Ice-ocean interaction
  • Pore-scale solute transport in porous media
  • Moist atmospheric convection

Numerical methods

  • Direct numerical simulation
  • Multiple-resolution techniques
  • Finite-difference methods
  • Pseudospectral methods
  • Phase-field models
  • Immersed boundary methods
