BIO

Dr. David DeFranza is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin, Ireland. His research applies computational social science to understand nuanced psychological phenomena and decision-making in ecologically meaningful contexts. This involves the analysis of large-scale, real-world datasets, such as corpora of news and webpages, social media posts, or mobile phone location data, using econometric modeling, machine learning, and quasi-experimental designs. As a faculty in the graduate business school, he teaches courses on digital marketing, big data analytics, and machine learning methods in the MSc programs. Prior to earning his Ph.D., he worked in marketing communications and analytics for more than 10 years with companies such as The Discovery Channel and SAS Institute and as a consultant for Microsoft, Adobe, Barnes & Noble, Gap, and Fidelity.
