BIO

David Jennings is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor and an Educational Developer within UCD Teaching and Learning.
He is the Programme Director of the UCD Teaching and Learning accredited professional programmes.

And is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education.


He brings a wealth of experience to his role, originating as a researcher in the Irish Archaeological Wetland survey where the effective use of technology formed an integral part of the project. Then as the Educational Technology Officer for UCD he promoted the use of technology in teaching and learning across the University.

David is currently the principal investigator and co-lead of an ERASMUS+ Project 'Hybrid-e'


He has coordinated National and Institutional projects (the National Digital Learning Repository). And continues to be an advocate of Open Educational Resources (OER): through the provision of guidance and workshops in both the development, dissemination and use of such to support e-learning. David designed, wrote and maintained the UCD OER site for 10 years, as means to offer unlimited access to educational development materials, at its peak the site had 30,000 unique visitors per month, and over eight million hits a year. He maintains an open folder of recent workshops and resources, and promotes the reuse of these materials through the Creative Commons Attribution licence CC BY.

In his role as Educational Developer David provides particular support and guidance to those that support learning within the institution and early career academics through a number of workshops and programmes. 
David has taught on the Professional Certificate / Diploma in University Teaching and Learning since its inception, offering a variety of modules. He also provides a graduate elective module for those that are in a tutor/demonstrator role.
