Frank joined the School of Geological Sciences (now Earth Sciences) in January 1993 as a Newman Scholar and was appointed to the full-time lecturing staff in 1999. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2002 and Associate Professor in 2006. He served as Head of the School of Geological Sciences for 4 years from 2007 to 2011 and again for 3 years, from 2015-2018, as Head of the School of Earth Sciences. Within UCD he serves on the Executive Management Committees of the SFI-funded iCRAG and ESIPP projects and is on the board of the UCD Earth Institute. He is a geochemist with broad interests in aqueous and low-temperature geochemistry, isotope geology and U-series dating methods. He is an associate editor and member of the Editorial Board for the international journal Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta.
