Dr Geoff McCombe is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Primary Connections Research Group at UCD School of Medicine. As a social psychologist his research interests lie at the boundary of social psychology and primary care research. He completed his doctoral training in the Department of Psychology at University of Limerick (UL) where he studied how social identity influences individuals' experience of political violence. From June 2013-Nov 2015 he worked on a HRB funded project under Prof Walter Cullen at UL developing, implementing, and evaluating an intervention to optimise the identification and treatment of problem alcohol use among problem drug users in primary care. In January 2016 he moved to UCD School of Medicine to work on a large scale European H2020 (Public Health Programme) funded project focusing on providing a 'shared care' model for HCV treatment involving partnership between primary and secondary care across Europe. He is also working on several projects developing interventions to address mental health and substance use disorders in primary care.
