Professional Education As a qualified primary teacher, I taught for several years in a school designed for co-operative teaching in Dublin. Following a B.A. degree, I completed the Higher Diploma in Education course in University College Dublin. This is a recognised teaching qualification for post-primary teachers. My professional training as an educational psychologist was undertaken in University College London. Professional Qualifications Fellow of The Psychological Society of Ireland Chartered Educational Psychologist Professional Activities: Indicative Activities - Former President of The Psychological Society of Ireland, the professional body for psychologists in Ireland; - Invited by the State Department of Education and Science to serve on a technical working party to advise on the establishment of the National Educational Psychological Service; - Appointed by a number of Irish and British universities as an external examiner for courses in initial teacher education at early years, primary and post-primary level. In some cases, this entailed the observation of students' professional practice in schools ; - Served as the Course Director of the M.A. degree in Educational Psychology at University College Dublin. This is a professional training course for educational psychologists. I was involved in securing accreditation of the course by the British Psychological Society and by the Psychological Society of Ireland ; - Appointed as the Course Director of the Ph.D. degree programme in Educational Psychology; - Served as the first Chief Examiner of the Postgraduate Professional Diploma in Educational Psychology organized by The Psychological Society of Ireland. Graduates of this programme are recognized educational psychologists; - Member of the Division of Educational Psychology of the Psychological Society of Ireland; - I have been involved in the accreditation of courses both in initial teacher education and in educational psychology in both the Republic of Ireland and elsewhere. disabilities.?So a young child being bullied, a teenager who is not attending school, a college student struggling to cope with assignments, parents trying to secure appropriate educational provision for their child with special educational needs and teachers grappling with work-related stress are all of interest to me. The focus of my research is on bringing about systemic change so that the barriers encountered by children, young people, parents, teachers and other professionals in the education system may be overcome. I am actively involved in a number of ongoing research projects. Research Interests: Indicative Interests - Educational Psychology and Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - Inclusive Education?- Autism Spectrum Disorder?- Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties - Mental Health Issues?- Teacher Education - The Psychology of Teaching and Learning - Professional and Ethical Issues - Higher Education - Time Management?- Systemic and Consultative Methods of Intervention in Schools and Colleges Research Related Activities: Indicative Activities - I am passionate about research and am involved in research in the fields of both education and educational psychology;?-I am a member of the International Editorial Board for the journal CAISE Review; - I enjoy reviewing research articles and have served as a reviewer of research articles for journals in Education, Inclusive and Special Education, Nursing and Psychology; - Appointed by universities in Britain and in Ireland as an external examiner of doctoral research in educational psychology and in education; - I present research papers at international and national conferences in both education and educational psychology;?-Served as external examiner of both undergraduate and post-graduate courses in both Education and Educational Psychology in both Ireland and Britain; - I supervise the research of Ph.D. students in respect of the Ph.D. degrees in Education, Children and Youth Studies and in Educational Psychology.- Am a supervisor of doctoral research undertaken by students for the degree of Doctor of Educational Psychology. -?I am actively involved in various professional activities both in Ireland and internationally.
