BIO

Dr. Isabel Briz is a Medical Anthropologist and Science & Technology Studies (STS) scholar specializing in the intersection of biomedical technologies, healthcare regulation, and lived experience.

She currently serves as the Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Research Officer for St Vincent’s UCD Cancer Centre and the UCD Cancer Trials Cluster in Dublin. In this role, she leads the development of infrastructure and capacity-building initiatives designed to embed patient and family lived experiences directly into cancer research and clinical care.

Isabel holds a PhD in Anthropology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where her doctoral research involved 15 months of intensive ethnographic fieldwork in China. Her work explored the lived experiences of patients, families, and clinicians navigating advanced therapy medicinal products. Upon completion of her PhD and following a one-year maternity leave, she held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, also at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2023–2024), where she focused on the lived experiences and perspectives of parents and families whose children have rare diseases in relation to genomic medicine. Since January 2025, she has been a Virtual Visiting Scholar with the Clinical Ethics Law and Society (CELS) research group at the University of Oxford.
