BIO

Jaden Carlson is a research fellow in the Herd Health and Animal Husbandry section of the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine. She first trained as a scientist, with a BSc in microbiology from North Dakota State University, where she evaluated virulence factors of Moraxella species in Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis (pinkeye) cases. She then moved to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to pursue a Masters in veterinary science, and researched environmental sampling techniques for the detection of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) at the herd level. Jaden decided to stay at UNL for her PhD, but moved to a different project investigating genetic risk factors associated with congestive heart failure in feedlot cattle. Her current research is focused on developing a syndromic surveillance system for the re-emergence of BVDV in Irish cattle herds.
