Dr. Rice is the founding member and principal investigator of the University College Dublin (UCD) NanoPhotonics and NanoImaging group. Following his BSc (Uni Sussex) and PhD (Queens College Belfast) Dr Rice worked at the Clarendon Laboratory, University of Oxford as and as a college physics tutor in Lady Margaret Hall and Wadham College. He also worked at the CNRS Lab Aime Cotton, University of Paris XI. Dr Rice has authored one book chapter, more than 80 articles, reports & letters and over 45 peer reviewed papers in in the fields of Optical properties of nanomaterials and in nanoscopy and nanoimaging. Dr Rice is a SFI PI researcher and has been PI on a number of SFI, Enterprise Ireland and international grants. James was awarded the Edmund Optics Research prize in 2011 and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Nanoscience.
