ProfessorJohn O'Doherty

Currently serving as a Full Professor of Monogastric Nutrition at the School of Agriculture & Food Science at University College Dublin (UCD) since 2017, John O Doherty has dedicated his professional life to advancing the understanding of monogastric nutrition and productivity. John began his academic career at UCD, where he received a deep knowledge of agriculture and science, earning a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons) in 1987 in UCD. His passion for animal nutrition led him to pursue a Master of Agricultural Science in Animal Nutrition, which he completed in 1989. His pursuit of excellence culminated in a PhD in Animal Nutrition, awarded in 1994 from UCD. His work in the field of monogastric nutrition was further acknowledged with a Doctor of Science (DSc) degree from the National University of Ireland in 2014.In 1994, he joined UCD's Department of Animal Science & Production as a College Lecturer, a role he held until 2002, followed by a position as Senior Lecturer at the School of Agriculture, Food Science, and Veterinary Medicine until 2006. His expertise and contributions to the field were recognized with his advancement to Associate Professor of Animal Nutrition at UCD in 2002, a title he held until his promotion to Professor in 2014. Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of research on the impact of diet on the physiological challenges faced by weaned piglets. He is a former recipient of the Sir John Hammond Award.
