RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests are in the areas of reaction mechanisms, stereoselectivity, molecular machines, dynamics of smart molecular systems. We are interested in rotaxanes and pseudorotaxanes, phosphorous (III) and (V) compounds, tetracoordinate phosphonium salts, ylides, ferrocene derivatives including organometallic therapeutic agents for cancer treatment.

As in the current global geopolitical situation, 2022, the EU finds itself in a very vulnerable position facing unprecedented price hikes and critical raw material supply chain failures research should refocus on practical and innovative solutions, no the least chemistry ones. The European regulatory drivers have been and will continue to create a large emerging market for element recycling technologies. Radically new chemistry solutions are sought to ensure sustainable use of all phosphorus resources in the European circular economy.
My current research projects are is in the areas of P-sustainability, green chemistry, and facilitation of the circular economy to preserve phosphorus resources. The research will be developing in two main directions. The first is focussed on commercially viable synthetic methods mitigating the use of elemental phosphorus and its derivatives, halogens/halides, metal/metal salts, strong bases, non-green solvents. The second is focussed on development and commercialisation of radically new method of phosphorus extraction from solid natural ores and waste streams for industrial and agricultural applications.
