Advancing high value terpenoidal semiochemicals for crop protection
    Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council1 Dec 2023 - 31 Dec 2024
Semiochemicals act as natural signals released by plants, insects and other organisms, and are sustainable alternatives for broad-spectrum insecticides. We have developed a biosynthetic route to terpenes semiochemicals for crop protection and human health. This project expanded our novel biotech routes for production of key terpene semiochemicals from the wild tomato (Solanum habrochaites) for control of Hemiptera pests using microbial fermentation. We successfully established high titres and novel extraction methods for production from inexpensive alcohol precursors.
