BIO

Malcolm Kell has worked as a consultant surgeon and senior lecturer within the national breast screening program in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital since November 2005. This followed completion of surgical oncology training in Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, under the direction of Dr Monica Morrow. This fellowship was designed to prepare for a leadership role in breast cancer care in an academic setting.Professor Kell is trained in the multidisciplinary surgical management of cancer. Clinical and research interests have focused to develop accelerated care pathways to facilitate and expedite patient care. Research has explored methods to enhance patients' aesthetic outcome following breast conservation and applied this to clinical practice. The sum of these clinical protocols is to apply best evidence practice, to ensure patients have not only optimum cancer outcome but also excellent survivorship. Professor Kell is also involved in research focused on improving outcome following aesthetic breast surgery.Numerous research publications and projects have helped to develop cancer care within Ireland. Several full time research fellows are currently working under the Direction of Professor Kell, Dr Amanda McCann and Professor William Gallagher in UCD. Malcolm has numerous national and international publications, has won the Bennet medal, delivered the 30th Millin lecture in RCSI, the 2014 St Luke's Lecture and recently has developed the Surgical Oncology Research Appeal through the Mater Foundation. Dr Roisin Dolan won the British Journal of Surgery prize for best paper at the British Association of Surgical Oncology, London 2010, under the direction of Mr Kell and Professor Liam Gallagher. Professor Kell is past president of the Society of Irish Breast Surgeons, past chair of the symptomatic breast cancer centres (NCCP), current medical advisor to Marie Keating Foundation and current chair of the Institutional Review board in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
