Marie Clarke is Dean of Undergraduate Studies in UCD. Prior to working in UCD she was a teacher in Liberties College, City of Dublin VEC. Joining the UCD School of Education 1998, she lectured in the areas of curriculum studies, mentoring studies, followership, education history/policy and quantitative research methods. She served as Head of School from 2007 to 2011 and in 2015 was appointed Dean of Arts. In her role as Dean, she was both the academic lead for the BA programme, and responsible for the implementation of University strategy, policies and procedures in teaching, learning, assessment, retention, curriculum development and widening participation across the programme. As Dean of Undergraduate Studies she is a member of the Registrar's senior academic leadership team with specific responsibility for overseeing undergraduate educational programmes and related student experience. She works closely with Programme Deans, Associate Deans and Vice Principals for Teaching and Learning to develop and enhance undergraduate programmes ensuring the highest quality of delivery. She also oversees the Teaching and Learning unit which provides support to faculty and staff on the promotion and implementation of best practice in teaching and learning. In recognition of her achievements in student learning and teaching she is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) Advance HE UK. She is also a member of Universitas 21 Educational Innovation Steering Group. She is the Lead Investigator on a number of funded research projects, in the areas of higher education, teacher education and development education. She also conducts research in the areas of history of education and education policy and is published in leading peer reviewed education journals. She is the UCD representative on Worldwide Universities Network, Global and Higher Education Research Steering Group (GHEAR). She is an expert reviewer for the Norwegian Research Council and has worked as an EU expert advisor on higher education as part of the European Commission Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Programme [TAIEX. ] She has also acted as an advisor to Educational International which is the largest federation of education unions in the world, representing 32 million education employees in 400 organisations across 170 countries and territories. She was a visiting scholar at the Curriculum and Teaching Department, Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. She served as an elected member of UCD Governing Authority from 2009-2019 and served on the University Finance, Remuneration and Asset Management Committee from 2013-19. She was elected President of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) for a two-year term from 2011-13.
