She has has taught on the postgraduate Equality Studies programme since 2007, and on the undergraduate Social Justice degree programmes since 2010, teaching modules on critical social theory, global justice, social movements and egalitarian theory. She was director of the M.Sc. programme in Equality Studies for several years, and is now head of subject for Equality Studies at UCD. Marie has an interdisciplinary background, with a degree in English Literature and Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, and an MSc and PhD in Equality Studies, combining sociology, political theory, cultural studies and political economy. She has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including The Sociological Review, The British Journal of Sociology of Education and Historical Materialism. Her first book, Identity and Capitalism, was published by Sage (London and Thousand Oaks) in 2015. She is currently involved in a number of projects for publication, including research on identity politics, the contemporary university, and elite formations. She is also writing a book called 'Inequality in the 21st century' (under contract with Polity, publication date 2020). She is a partner in a pan-European project, 'The frontier of sustainability transitions: Cultural adaptations of sustainability policies in European peripheral regions'. An interest in equality, and in dominant and residual cultural and political responses to inequalities, animates and connects all her work. Marie is interested in supervising doctoral students who would like to specialise in critical social theory, ideology and discourse in capitalist societies, elite studies, social justice movements or equality studies.
