With over 20 years of university teaching experience, Mark has taught across a range of topics in planning and environmental policy, employing studio-based teaching, project-based learning and lecture-based approaches. He currently contributes to a range of undergraduate and graduate programmes in UCD, including the BSc Programme in City Planning & Environmental Policy, BSc in Landscape Architecture, and Masters in Regional and Urban Planning. His teaching includes modules on Introduction to Spatial Planning, Rural & Landscape Planning, and Comparative Planning. Mark has also led numerous new teaching programmes in the university, including initiating and designing the following courses: MSc in Environmental Policy, Masters in Public Policy (MPP), MSc in Urban Design, and BA in Geography, Planning & Environment. He has served as programme external examiner at leading UK universities, including University of Sheffield, Newcastle University and University College London. Mark has extensive experience supervising PhDs. He has supervised 12 PhDs to completion and has been active in doctoral training initiatives.
