TEACHING ACTIVITIES
I teach across the DN700 and DN750 degrees at UCD, and have previously taught and co-ordinated modules on the Master of Public Policy (MPP). My current areas of teaching include:
- Understanding the contemporary Irish Welfare State,
- Engaging with and problematising the relationship between work and the welfare state through engaging with social policy and political economy
- Comparative and Global Social Policy and the governance structures that enable and constrain policy
I am currently Director of Graduate Studies within SPSWSJ, and have previously held directorships for the MPP and PhD Public Policy, Doctorate of Governance, and Higher Diploma in Social Policy.
My teaching receives consistently positive feedback, and I am lucky to have been nominated twice for Teaching and Learning Awards while at UCD, alongside a Teaching Award nomination while at Oxford.
I have supervised 3 doctoral students to completion:
- Dr. Inigo Aldama (Ad Astra PhD) - Understanding the Welfare Preferences of Ethnonational Minority Parties in Western Europe: A Mixed Method Approach
- Dr. Patrick Rochford (DGov) - Under what conditions can the ILO adapt the practice of tripartite representation to work with new actors? The case of the Enterprises Initiative and Alliance 8.7.
- Dr. Minho Lee (DPhil, Oxford) - Social Policy Preferences in South Korea: Individual and Family-Related Perspectives
I have also supervised an MLitt to completion. I am always happy to discuss with prospective students ideas for PhD projects.
