DrMd Salauddin

Dr Md Salauddin is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor and Head of Teaching and Learning in the School of Civil Engineering. His teaching and research focus on Water and Environmental Engineering. He joined the School of Civil Engineering as an Assistant Professor in 2020. Prior to this, he held research positions at the University of Warwick and University College Dublin, working on projects funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Before moving to Ireland, Dr Salauddin served as a faculty member at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, where he was actively involved in teaching and research in hydraulics and water resources engineering. He also served as Programme Director for the MEngSc in Water and Environmental Engineering at UCD from 2022 to 2025.

His current main research interests are:
- Nature-based solutions in a changing climate
- Climate resilience of critical coastal infrastructures
- Storm surge and wave impacts on coastal protections
- Wave structure interactions at sea defences
- Extreme coastal hazards (impact pressures, scouring, overtopping, hydraulic stability of coastal structures)
- Wave and tidal energy
- Marine water quality
- Scouring of offshore wind turbines

Dr Salauddin has received approximately €3.0M in research funding from various funding agencies, including Horizon Europe, Interreg, Marine Institute, CHIST-ERA EU Joint Programme, EPA Ireland, Research Ireland, and Geological Survey Ireland, since 2022.
