Michael received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University College Dublin in 2005. Subsequently, he was employed as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the UCD School of Computer Science and has been a Lecturer in the School since 2012.Michael's recent research has focused on the areas of recommender systems, reputation systems, social Web search, real-time Web and user-generated content analysis. This work has included developing reputation models to enhance information discovery on the Web, leveraging real-time Web data as a new source of recommendation knowledge, and applying machine learning techniques and opinion mining to inform product and review recommendation. Previous work considered the robustness of collaborative recommender systems against attack. Michael's seminal work in this area has been widely cited and has lead to significant research activity by the community on this topic.Michael has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in his areas of expertise. Michael is a Funded Investigator in the Insight Centre for Data Analytics and was previously a PI in the Learnovate Technology Centre.
