TEACHING ACTIVITIES
My teaching philosophy is based on principles of reflection and review, student-centred learning, the importance of First Year, and the centrality of assessment. I am particularly interested in using writing in the classroom, not only as a communicative tool, but as a driver of critical thinking, organisation and creativity. Innovation and Leadership I have shared my knowledge and skills as a teacher at a School level on the T & L committee, in mentoring junior colleagues, in training tutors and as Skills Coordinator overseeing skills provision in the School. I received a College Teaching Award (2010) and was appointed UCD Fellow in Teaching and Academic Development (2011-13). As Fellow I am involved in the project 'The Practice of Assessment in First Year' (with S. Guerin and J. McNulty) and 'Writing and Teaching'.
