BIO
Dr. Muhammad graduated from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in Aug 2017, and a Ph.D. in Civil Structural Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong in July 2021. After working for two years as a Research Fellow funded by the Irish Research Council and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, he was appointed a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Galway in Sep 2023. He worked at University of Galway until July 2024. From July 2024, he started permanent position as an Assistant Professor at School of Civil Engineering, UCD.
His research interests are in Finite Element Modelling, Structural Dynamics, Applied Mechanics, Vibration, and Acoustics in particular in phononic crystals, acoustic and mechanical metamaterials in applications to acoustic and elastic waves manipulation, including guided waves for noncontact non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring and vibration and noise control applications. He has extensive experience in the development of theoretical, numerical, and experimental techniques to design and manufacture phononic metamaterials. He remains an Irish Research Council-Research Fellow and received the Seal of Excellence Award from EU-Horizon MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2021.
He has taught Fluid Mechanics to 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering students at Trinity College Dublin (2022) and Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Combustion Engineering Sciences courses (2023-2024) to undergraduate and master students at the University of Galway. In 2023 and 2024 he was nominated for the Trinity Excellence in Teaching Award and College of Science/Presidential Teaching Excellence Award at University of Galway, respectively, for his outstanding teaching and teaching excellence.
