TEACHING ACTIVITIES

The central tenet of my philosophy lies in fostering the development of independent thinking and analysis skills, particularly with respect to 'self-starter' capabilities in projects and less well-defined, real-life-oriented, professional scenarios. This has led to my leading role in co-designing and co-managing two Taught-Masters programmes and curricula within Chemical Engineering since 2009, with particular emphasis on project work. This spirit of independent and critical thinking is instilled via open-ended research and design projects throughout courses of study and subjects, requiring both individual performance and teamwork skills. In terms of technical innovation and leadership in the teaching and learning space, I co-designed the curriculum for the more informal Nanoscale Simulators in Ireland (NSI) programme with colleagues at Queens University, Trinity College and UCC/Tyndall, and I played a key rôle in the conception and technical deployment of videoconference (VC) technology and online delivery methods for this lecture series with colleagues at the HEA and other Irish universities. I have developed considerable expertise in VC- and remote-teaching methods.
