BIO

Niamh Moore-Cherry is an Associate Professor of Urban Governance and Development in the School of Geography, University College Dublin and is Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning in the UCD College of Social Sciences and Law. Since December 2017, she has been a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy in recognition of her international and strategic leadership of university teaching and learning. Her research is focused on understanding how cities are governed; how policy is developed; and with what impacts. She is the author of Dublin Docklands Reinvented (Four Courts Press, 2008), has co-edited three books and has papers published in national and international journals including European Urban and Regional Studies, Urban Geography, Urban Studies, Housing Policy Debate, Land Use Policy, Irish Geography and Planning Practice and Research. Her current work focuses on the spaces and practices of governance, particularly in the Dublin city-region, and the issue of metropolitanisation in a comparative context. Niamh also has a strong research and teaching interest in student transitions and students as partners and has co-authored a number of papers on these topics that have been published in Higher Education and Journal of Geography in Higher Education. Niamh is immediate Past-President of the Geographical Society of Ireland; a member of the Social Sciences Committee, Royal Irish Academy; a member of the IGU Urban Commission Steering Group; and is on the Editorial Boards of Irish Geography and Journal of Geography in Higher Education. Niamh is Chair of the International Geographical Congress which will be hosted by the Geographical Society of Ireland and held in Dublin in August 2024. Niamh teaches human geography, comparative urbanisation, and research design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
