My major research interest is the development of new computational approaches for coastal processes and flood related hazards.Since September 2014, I hold a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Hamburg where I performed my doctoral research on high-order adaptive discontinuous Galerkin inundation modeling under the directions of Prof. Dr. Jörn Behrens. The major aspect of my work was the development of a stable two-dimensional, adaptive numerical model of intermediate complexity that is capable of modeling wind-induced flooding and drying.Following this, I worked at the interdisciplinary Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability on the EU-funded project ASTARTE, that deals with assessment strategies and risk reduction for tsunamis in Europe. I contributed to this project with a study of adaptive triangular meshes that are used to model the multi-scale character of inundation simulations. Particularly, I studied metrics to quantify the computational efficiency of these meshes. Furthermore, I worked on the methodological improvement of a discontinuous Galerkin model to simulate onshore propagation of ocean waves.Since January 2016, I am a postdoc research fellow at University College Dublin. Within the project "Understanding Nearshore Wave Events through Studies of Coastal Boulder Transport" I study the relationship between ocean wave energy and onshore mass transport. In particular, my work is concerned with understanding and modeling wave amplification across uneven submarine topography.
