TEACHING ACTIVITIES

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that the role of a teacher is that of facilitator that creates opportunities and environments for student self directed learning in their quest for knowledge. I currently coordinate 2 modules: Medical Microbiology and Host Pathogen interactions. I coordinated the Student Summer Research Awards (SSRA) programme and research elective from 2017 to 2025. I currently coordinate the UCD School of Medicine Intercalated MSc Programme.

My teaching area is Medical Microbiology and the format of my teaching involves formal lectures, practicals and tutorials. Students attending my lectures are at stages 2-4 and span Medicine, Biomedical, Health & Life Sciences and Science (Microbiology) degree programs. I specifically cover medical Virology including blood borne viruses, respiratory viruses, hepatitis viruses and enteric viruses. The Host Pathogen Interactions module is research driven and covers interactions between various pathogens and the host immune responses and various cellular signalling pathways.

The Intercalated MSc programme provides Medicine students with an opportunitity to undertake a one year lab based MSc during their degree programmes.
