I am a palaeobiologist with varied research interests. My principal research areas have been the taphonomy of exceptionally preserved fossils (those in which the tissues that usually decay quickly after death are preserved), and the use of trace fossils and ichnofabrics to document the assembly of complex animal communities in the aftermath of the Cambrian Explosion. A growing area of interest is the application of conservation palaeobiology to understanding recent environmental change in marine ecosystems in the northern Atlantic.
