DrRachel Toomey

Rachel holds a degree in Radiography.  Following completion of her doctoral studies in UCD (2010) she took up a postdoctoral position in the Institute for Medical Science and Technology at the University of Dundee, gaining invaluable experience as of the  Integrated Interventional Imaging Operating System (IIIOS) consortium, funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Community.

In September 2011, Rachel returned to UCD, having been appointed to a lecturing post in Radiography and Diagnostic Imaging. In this role she has contributed to teaching and learning across several different undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, In addition to cooordinating modules in various subjects, she has considerable curriculum design and programme management experience. She designed and coordinated the first Intra-Orbital Foreign Body Screening course, coordinated the Professional Certificate in Radiation Safety for a period, and currently leads the Radiation Safety course for the UCD Intern Network.  She acted as Programme Director for UCD's Radiography programme for four years (2019-2023) and is currently Head of Subject for Radiography.

Amongst other roles, Rachel also serves as the School of Medicine Radiation Protection Supervisor (excluding Conway Institute) and sits on the University Radiation Safety Committee and the UCD Orientation Advisory Group.  Rachel enjoys collaborative outreach, and lead the successful History and Health Competition in 2016 as part of the Decade of Centenaries.
