TEACHING ACTIVITIES

Teaching occurs in a social setting with cultural, psychological and political complexities that complicate all human relationships (including those between students and teachers). My teaching philosophy is to facilitate student learning and augment problem-solving skills through independent thinking and analytical reasoning. This is achieved by stimulating and encouraging class participation while creating a conducive learning environment that uses research and real-life case studies to focus on problem-based learning. As Swami Vivekananda says, “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already present in man” it is just how much we strive for it and how much we desire to learn something new. Therefore, my teaching and assessment methods will always focus on student-centred learning. Innovation and Leadership I integrate innovative aspects of my research into my modules to ensure my teaching remains current and to highlight the industrial application and relevance to students. As a result, innovative assessment methods and technological innovations provide a novel and positive student experience.
I developed and led the curriculum creation for a new 5-credit module, ‘BSEN40470 Predictive Modelling and Risk Assessment’ in 2021. I currently share 50% workload of the ‘BSEN40470 Predictive Modelling and Risk Assessment’ and 'BSEN30020 Buildings and Environment' modules. I have developed a new 10-credit module called ‘BSEN40810 GHG Accounting’ and a new 5-credit module, 'BSEN20180 Introduction to Environmental Footprinting'. I am also a module coordinator for the 'BSEN30280 Water and Wastewater Engineering' and 'BSEN20010 Engineering & Surveying' modules. My mode of assessment includes periodical feedback, a mix of summative assessment or ‘Assessment OF Learning’, formative assessment or ‘Assessment FOR Learning’, and ‘Assessment AS Learning’ (National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, 2017). I am looking forward to seeing you in the class!
