TEACHING ACTIVITIES
Assistant Professor Robin Farrell is the programme director for veterinary nursing within the School of Veterinary Medicine. Robin has a passion for developing and delivering engaging inclusive learning and assessment activities to enhance the student's experience. Robin actively seeks to use key principles of learning in the development and delivery of all of her lectures and practical teaching sessions with students. These key principles include but are not limited to student emotional well-being, promoting the growth mindset in students, delivering timely effective feedback, use of formative assessments to foster self-regulated learning, setting valid and reliable assessments, facilitating deliberate practice, scaffolding learning, provision of contextualized learning activities and most of all, making education fun and accessible to all. Robin strives to provide a safe learning environment using simulation and models. Clinical skills models and simulation along with creating a safe learning environment where students can learn from mistakes and ask questions are key to keeping both students and their future patients safe. Robin has developed a number of clinical skills models, task sheets, videos, and simulation scenarios to support student learning and continues to work with interdisciplinary teams and students to find innovative ways in which to actively engage students in learning veterinary medicine and nursing professional and clinical skills.
