Abd Al Salam Al-Sabah
Salam Al-Sabah has dual academic and professional engineering careers. In addition to his work as a Research Fellow at UCD, he continues to work in structural design both in Ireland and other parts of the world as an associate in one of the leading international engineering consultancies (Arup). His current UCD research is on a new digitally manufactured steel connection with the EI funder project "Simplified Steel Connection" and the SFI project AMASS as part of as a US-Ireland R&D Partnership programme with research partners from Queens University and the University of Minnesota. He also carries out research on a new method to assess the concrete strength concrete in existing structures. In this capacity he is working as the main industrial partner supervisor of ESR-2 on the Marie Skłodowska Curie project TRUSS. In addition, his recent research interests are on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and using machine learning tools in structural design and SHM. As a professional engineering, his work is focused on the structural design of challenging structures and elements. Significant projects in Ireland include the new Air traffic control tower at Dublin Airport, Waterways House, and Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
