Dr. Sarah Browne is a registered dietitian and a part-time assistant professor on the MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin and Dublin Institute of Technology in 2006. Sarah began her career working as a community dietitian with the HSE where she helped to develop and deliver a range of primary care dietetic services including group weight management, shared care diabetes, heart health, and malnutrition. She went on to run a private practice, where she specialised in community health programmes, youth and school health promotion, youth cookery programmes and 1:1 clinics for weight management, gastrointestinal disorders, and nutrition counselling for a range of chronic diseases. In 2007 Sarah began training in the use of behavioural change approaches for dietetic care, and has extensive experience in the translation of behaviour change research into practice and the application for patient-centred dietetic services. Sarah has worked with children and adolescents for over 10 years in practice and research and promotes collaborative approaches in this work. She completed her doctoral thesis in 2017 at Dublin City University, using participatory methods with teenagers to understand diet and physical activity behaviours in the secondary school setting in Ireland. She continues childhood research as a part-time post-doctoral researcher with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where she is involved in clinical research with the childhood obesity service at Children's Health Ireland, Temple St., Dublin. How food and physical activity environments influence the health related behaviours of children and adolescents continues to be a focus of her work.
