Seaneen Sloan is Assistant Professor and Director of the MSc in Children and Youth Studies. Seaneen has an interdisciplinary academic background, spanning health and social sciences, and a professional background in educational and psychological research. Her doctoral research was in the area of early child development and examined parent-child interactions during caregiving. Prior to joining UCD in 2016, Seaneen spent 12 years at Queen's University Belfast (QUB), where her research focused on improving outcomes for children and young people within the family, school and community context. An active researcher, Seaneen has received over €5 million in research funding as principal or co-investigator. Her research interests are focused around child development, social and emotional wellbeing, and mental health, especially within the context of schooling and educational attainment. Methodologically, her interests lie in evaluative research. She has completed numerous evaluations of school-based programmes using a range of methodologies, and in particular, is experienced in the design, management, analysis and reporting of randomised controlled trials (and associated process evaluations) in school settings. Seaneen is interested in hearing from prospective PhD candidates in the areas of: - Social and emotional development and wellbeing - Educational effectiveness and evaluation - Improving outcomes for children and young people through prevention and early intervention
