BIO

Dr. Steven McCartney is an Ad Astra Fellow and Assistant Professor in HRM and People Analytics at the Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin. He received his PhD from Trinity College Dublin, focusing on people analytics, and holds an MSc in Work and Organisational Behaviour from The University of Limerick. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from McMaster University, Canada, and an advanced diploma in Human Resource Management. Dr. McCartney's research interests include people analytics, digital transformation, strategic HRM, and strategic human capital. His research has been featured in several high-impact international journals, including Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Personnel Review, Management Decision, and the Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance. He is currently co-leading a funded research project with international partners that explores the intersection of HRM, AI, and digital skills. His teaching experience includes delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules covering Human Resource Management, People Analytics, Research Methods, Strategy, and 21st-Century Skills.
