I am currently working as an Assistant Professor in Children's Nursing at the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems. My clinical background is children's nursing; I have 18 years of clinical experience in paediatric health care settings working as a Staff Nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager, and Clinical Nurse Specialist and most recently (February 2013-April 2017) I was appointed as Clinical Audit and Nursing Research Facilitator at Temple Street Children's University Hospital. As a clinical audit facilitator, I played a significant role in setting up the Department of Clinical Audit which was launched in June 2013. I have managed and co-ordinated the day to day operation of the Department of Clinical Audit where I developed clinical audit policies and other relevant documents for the day to day governance of the Department of Clinical audit, which was reviewed, approved, ratified by Clinical Audit Steering Committee and CEO. As a nursing research facilitator, I supported the Department of Nursing in maximising its research competitiveness through education and support of staff using Research & Audit in a clinical setting. I have contributed to the design of the nursing research strategic plan for the hospital. I was Involved in many patient quality and safety projects (PEWS, Sepsis, Consent, Clinical Handover etc.) and some International research studies including Evaluating processes of care and outcomes of children in hospital (EPOCH).
