BIO

B.Sc. University College Dublin (1997); Ph.D.(2002) from University College Dublin (supervisor, Prof. Donald Fitzmaurice). Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. John M. Kelly and Prof. Thorfinnur Gunnlaugsson in Trinity College Dublin (2002-5). Postgraduate course coordinator, School of Chemistry TCD, (2006-9) responsible for development and implementation of Dublin Chemistry Graduate programme (dublinchemistry.ie). Joined the School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology in University College Dublin in September 2009 and became a tenured member of academic staff in 2012. Was awarded the RSC Rita and John Cornforth award in 2016, jointly with Prof. John Kelly (TCD) and Prof. Christine Cardin (Reading University), for our structural work on DNA- transition metal complexes, proof of the origins of the "light-switch" effect and its implications for the mechanisms of DNA damage.
