Imre is a postdoctoral research fellow at UCD's School of Business, working on the ERC Project European Unions: Labour Politics and the EU's New Economic Governance Regime. He received his doctorate from Central European University. His PhD thesis explored labor unrest in the public sector across four European countries: Denmark, Estonia, Hungary and Ireland. He is currently involved in the European Unions project, with a focus on the relationship between the politics of water and the EU's New Economic Governance Regime. Imre's broader research interests include political economy, industrial relations and comparative social policy. He has published on the transformation of Hungarian labor relations since 2010 in Transfer; his article with Marta Kahancová on management reforms in Slovak and Hungarian hospitals has appeared in the European Journal of Industrial Relations.
