BIO

Vessela Daskalova is an Assistant Professor in the School of Economics at University College Dublin, a Fellow at the UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy, and Associate Faculty at Toulouse School of Economics.

 

She leads the UCD Behavioural Science and Policy Group (https://bsp.ucd.ie/).

 

Vessela is the Director of the BSP laboratory for economics experiments (https://bsp.ucd.ie/lab/).

 

Her research is in the areas of Behavioural and Experimental Economics, Microeconomic Theory and Political Economy. 

 

She builds theoretical models, designs laboratory experiments, and uses computational analysis to better understand human behaviour in both individual and strategic decision settings.

 

Vessela's work has been published in leading international journals such as the European Economic Review, Games and Economic Behaviour, and the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization.

Her current research focuses on questions related to discrimination, social identities, biases in individual and collective decision making, and bounded rationality. 

 

Before moving to UCD, Vessela was an IAST postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse and Toulouse School of Economics. Prior to that she conducted postdoctoral research as a Cambridge-INET fellow in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge.


Vessela holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London, an MSc from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, and a BSc from Georg-August University Göttingen.

 

At UCD, Vessela teaches various courses in Behavioural and Experimental Economics at the undergraduate and MSc level.

 

She is a co-chair of the Irish Economic Association Theory network and a member of the Irish Economic Association Behavioural Economics network and over the years has held memberships in various international economics associations.
