Alessia Paccagnini is a multi-award-winning Associate Professor of Econometrics at University College Dublin, where she serves as Academic Director of the MSc in Quantitative Finance and Co-Chair of Women in STEM. Her research looks at how the economy works, makes predictions, and studies real-world economic issues, especially focusing on economic uncertainty, evaluating policies, and using advanced econometric methods, machine learning, and big data in practical macro-financial studies

Her work has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, International Journal of Forecasting, Journal of Business Ethics, Annals of Operations Research, Economic Inquiry, and Economics Letters, among others. She has also contributed to influential book chapters, editorial projects, and policy-relevant research, collaborating extensively with international research teams across Europe, North America, and Australia.

Alessia has held visiting positions at major academic institutions and policy organizations, including central banks and leading European and international universities. She has secured competitive research funding as principal investigator and co-investigator through national and international schemes and plays an active leadership role in the profession as an Executive Member of the Society for Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics (SNDE).

She currently serves as Associate Editor of Digital Finance, the European Journal of Finance, and the International Journal of Finance and Economics and Forecasting. Her service reflects a strong commitment to shaping high-quality, inclusive, and forward-looking research agendas within the discipline.

A recipient of multiple teaching excellence and equity, diversity, and inclusion awards, Alessia has extensive teaching experience at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels. Her teaching combines rigorous quantitative training with innovative and inclusive pedagogical approaches, including the responsible use of AI and digital tools. She is deeply committed to mentoring early-career researchers and advancing diversity and gender equality in economics, finance, and STEM.

Through her research, teaching, and leadership, Alessia seeks to contribute to better economic forecasting, more effective policy design, and a more inclusive and globally connected academic community.
