DrAna Peric Momcilovic

I am an Assistant Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, University College Dublin. Prior to my current role, and apart from a stint at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar (2021), I spent nine years as a postdoc and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development, ETH Zurich (2014-2023), and seven years as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade (2008-2015), where I currently hold a position of Principal Research Fellow. At the same faculty, I obtained a Diploma in Architecture (2007) and a PhD in Urban Planning (2013). My dissertation, titled "The Role of Urban Planning in the Process of Brownfield Regeneration," received the 2014 award from the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce for the best dissertation defended at the University of Belgrade. I have received eight grants, including the Foundation for Young Talents grant (2010/2011) and the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (2014/2015) for PhD and postdoc research conducted at ETH Zurich, the Fulbright Commission grant (2021) for conducting research as a VIsiting Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Swiss National Science Foundation grant (2025) for conducting research as a Visiting Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research.

Funded by Swiss National Science Foundation, ETH Zurich, АRL (Academy for Spatial Development, Hannover), Future Cities Lab (Singapore ETH Zurich Centre), Swiss Government and Fulbright Commission, I have participated in twelve research projects on various topics and scales, from spatial development and urban governance in European macro-regions to place-based planning approaches in neighbourhoods, serving as the project coordinator on three occasions and as the principal investigator three times. My research results have been published in two authored and six co-edited books, more than 50 academic journal articles and book chapters by renowned publishers (Sage, Taylor&Francis, Elsevier, Emerald, Springer, Routledge, and Palgrave), numerous conference papers and several policy papers and strategic guidelines. Published in the leading journals, I (co)-authored articles on new conceptual frameworks (Cities, Land Use Policy), policy reviews (European Planning Studies, European Spatial Research and Policy), and practical guidance (Habitat International, Urban Research and Practice, Urban Design International).

I have been engaged as an editorial/peer-review board member of six academic journals. In 2023, I was awarded the MDPI Publishers Award for outstanding editorial work on the topic "Sustainable Built Environment." As an active member of AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning), I participate in its Excellence in Education Board (2020-2026) and the Best Congress Paper Award Committee (2022-2027). Within ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners), I chaired its Gerd Albers Award Committee (2016-2022), which evaluates the academic publications of the ISOCARP members. I am engaged as a member of supervising committees of PhD dissertations, MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) and Master’s theses at European universities (ETH Zurich, UPC Barcelona, Politecnico di Milano, University of Belgrade). Dedicated to combining research with practical assignments, I have been active in several policy and professional working groups, including the European Commission Corridor Coordinators, the Western Balkan Network on Territorial Governance, ISOCARP (serving as a Board Member, 2016-2022), and UN-Habitat/ISOCARP Community of Practice on Urban Innovation.
