BIO
Dr Anthony Kelly is a Teaching Fellow in the School of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin and a member of the UCD Centre for Digital Policy. Within ICS, Anthony supports the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the School, supervising MSc theses, Media Management proejcts, and MLIS capstone projects, as well as coordinating the 1st year undergraduate module IS10040 Information, Society, and Culture.
Anthony holds a PhD in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), awarded in 2021. His PhD thesis explored the role of online partisan media in contemporary American politics, with an empirical focus on “below-the-line” commentary on a conservative news and opinion website during the 2016 US presidential election. Anthony's doctoral research was supported by a National University of Ireland (NUI) Travelling Doctoral Studentship in Media and Communications. Anthony’s postdoctoral research was funded by Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland and explored how the social media audiences of reactionary political influencers position themselves as stakeholders in the mediation of reaction.
Anthony is a member of the Reactionary Politics Research Network (RPRN) and a Managing Editor of the RPRN’s Reactionary Politics Working Papers series. Prior to commencing his PhD, Anthony was an Assistant Lecturer in Anthropology at Maynooth University, where he designed and delivered seminar-based modules on digital anthropology, political media, and globalisation. More recently, prior to his Research Ireland postdoc, he served as Digital Anthropologist at L’Atelier BNP Paribas, a Paris-based foresight company, where he directed research on the social and cultural implications of emerging technologies.
